Car free
Muerren is a little car free resort high on top of the Lauterbrunnen valley. It has al the facilities you need, is a great starting point for all kind of hikes.
According to history, people from Wallis crossed over the mountains to settle on the terrace high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The settlement goes back to the 13th century, when the village was mentioned for the first time in the history.

With the world renowned views on Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, it has all the elements of an incredible stay. High above all daily stress, this is the ideal place for a well deserved relaxing holiday.
Muerren can, as it is car free, only be reached by cable car / train (BLM) or cable car (Schilthorn Bahn).

Mürren wintersport
It is one of those rare places where wintersport is still really relaxed. No travel to a skilift (except a small walk), hardly any waiting lines. It is ideal for families with children.
One of the questions we receive: Where is the Muerren ski rental? There are mainly 2 places where you can rent: At the Schilthornbahn or are the Sportcentre.
You will find that the Schilthorn ski region has everything to offer; from family friendly to challenging.
The Schiltgrat area is tranquile, with the stunning views on the mountains. It is extremely relaxing.
It is a great starting point for many hikes. From easy to multi-day tours.
Our favorite is the Panoramaweg. You take the Allmendhubelbahn and walk. The hike is relative light. The views are once again breath taking.
From the Allmendhubel you can take several hikes. One of the classic one is the Panoramaweg.
We often get the question: “how long is the via ferrata in Mürren?”. The length is 2,2 km. It is an incredible experience.
If you want to challenge yourself a little bit, you rent the equipment for the Muerren Klettersteig. Also known as the Mürren Via Ferrata. Not for inexperienced! Here you will find more information

Muerren has quite a few restaurants. In almost every price category. We mention a few ones as we have good memories:
Stägerstübli, located in the middle of the village. Very traditional restaurant. Great steaks, but also Cheese fondue. They have a little dining room at the backside of the building. Reservations absolutely necessary in the high season. Tel: +41(0) 33 855 13 1 https://www.staegerstuebli.ch/en
Hotel Edelweiss, inside the hotel. Most tourists will not appreciate the hotel for it’s design. But that does not do justice. The Hotel is built under the famous Bauhaus style. The kitchen is very good. They make great pizza’s but also their Rösti is delicious. The new terrace offers a great view and very friendly staff. Eiger Guesthouse, directly across the BLM station. A little bit backwards, you will find this very cosy restaurant. We love it there, we feel the menu has a few good dishes. Great price performance ratio. Tel.: +41 (0) 33 856 5460 https://www.eigerguesthouse.com/restaurant-bar/
Hotel Bellevue, great terrace, good lounge set for a typical Swiss tradition; an apéro. The owners are also very friendly. Great for having lunch after skiing. But also dinner is really good. Tham, if you like oriental take away, you can also dine there. we recommend it very much. It is just across our apartment. They get raving reviews on Tripadvisor.

New Schilthornbahn20XX
After the completion of the Schilthornbahn in 1969 to Piz Gloria and the James Bond movie, “on her Majesty’s secret service”, the cable was in operation now for over 55 years.
Tourism to Mürren and the Schilthorn has increased significantly. Therefore a new concept has been engineered. This reduces the travel time significantly. From Stechelberg to Muerren the connection is without the stop in Gimmelwald. Furthermore the capacity will be increase from 350 persons per hour, to over 800 passengers.
